Quick Capture

The Quick Capture bar at the top of the Inbox page is the fastest way to get information into OikoNotes. Type text, attach files, or record audio — everything lands in your Inbox for later processing.

Basic Capture

Type any text into the capture bar and press Enter or click the send button. A new fleeting note is created in your Inbox.

Slash Commands

Prefix your text with a slash command to create specific note types or items. The command is stripped from the note content.

Food Capture

Quick Capture can log food directly into the Food Diary. Use an explicit command like /food buddha bowl with eggs and avocado or type natural phrasing like I ate a buddha bowl with eggs and avocado. The system tries nutrition database data first and falls back to AI estimation for missing values.

Shopping Item Parsing

The /s command supports inline item parsing with quantities:

  • /s milk, eggs, bread — adds three separate items
  • /s 2x milk — adds milk with quantity 2
  • /s 500g flour — adds flour with quantity 500g
  • /s milk (1 gallon) — adds milk with quantity 1 gallon

File Attachments

Attach files to your capture in two ways:

  • Click the attachment button to open a file browser
  • Drag and drop files directly onto the capture bar

Attached images and documents are processed by AI (OCR, image analysis) when AI processing is enabled. A thumbnail preview appears for staged files. Files larger than 10 MB trigger a size warning.

Audio Recording

Click the microphone button to start recording audio directly in the browser. A live timer shows the recording duration. Click again to stop. The audio file is automatically attached and transcribed by AI.

What Happens After Capture

When you submit a capture:

  1. A new note is created with Inbox status
  2. Attachments are uploaded and stored
  3. If AI is enabled, a background job is queued to analyse the content
  4. The inbox counter updates and the note appears in your recent captures
